I want to apologize
So, in my last blog I think I painted an unfair picture of a correctional officer and I apologize for doing so. This isolation is really and truly taking a toll on my mental health and has effected my perceptions. I am not well.
Almost all of the officers I have come across are really decent and honourable men. They also do a hellish job. They live literally in the midst of war zones and have police the war! I recalled hard things I witnessed and heard about. So allow me to even the scale.
I have seen a man ran through with about 16 inches of steel fashioned into a knife. He was pierced front to back. As they pushed this guy, laying on his side on a gurney this officer was telling him he would be OK, even though it was clear it wouldn't be. Then this same officer had to come to work the next day, which he did. And, as always he treated us with respect and acted professionally. Most "C/O"'s as we call them are outstanding men, far far better men than I. Who did I think I was painting that picture? A crazy men locked in a cell 47 of each 48 hours I guess. So, if you know a c/o well I hope you'll tell them you appreciate the hard work they do.
