Dear Sarah,
Hello - hope all is well w/ you! Sorry 4 the late reply, but I recently got this (couple days ago). Thank you - (you're awesome 4 it by the way) calling me fellow bear, because it reminds me of Cal and something great. I say that because - it is so easy to forget about a world that's forgotten you, thereby forgetting better days. Your note is so cool, especially the positive words (from a nice girl!). What have I been up to recently - well I try to stay as busy as possible, so I've enclosed:
1) (poem) Lost and Profound - about doing "solitary time" &
2) a letter from "Compassion Prison Project" re: possibility of this poem being used in a prison curriculum video. I sent the poem in hand-written & they typed it (& asked permission to use it)
3) a letter from Shriners Hospital re: a donation I made. I was inspired to do it by something an athlete did - Colin Kaepernick - donated $1,000,000 to ten different Bay Area organizations in the form of: $100,000 to each of the ten. While I don't have that much money, I'm doing something similar with my stimulus money. So, I'm donating ten checks - in the amount of $101.00 to different places. [The amount $101.00 is an omen of: goof fortune in donation that I learned from my Hindu Mom]. Recently, I did a check for $105.55. [The 5 is a suspicious sign in Sikh religion that I learned from my Punjabi Dad].
You're hella cool - because the simple question + positive words make me feel good! Sarah, you also - continue 2 be awesome sauce! It's great that you work with incarcerated people.
In the Compassion Prison Project letter, he said "it gets you (me) in trouble..." "It" is me assisting I/Ms who need help/assistance (due to low education, mental health issues & English as a 2nd language or combo of) with: grievances, appeals, & getting x-rays, MRI (& other medical stuff) &/or complaints on discriminatory &/or abusive staff &/or other living conditions (e.g. ADA showers, etc). I fight on paper - aggressively. Staff don't like it. They retaliate on me e.g. - see inclosed x-ray (6-24-21) - my broken ribs - (on 6/9/21), while in Ad-Seg Unit (ASU)/solitary, 3 C/Os came in & beat me severely. Normally, C/Os (corrections officers) will activate an alarm & blame the I/M & issue a write up. Here, there was none of that; they snuck in - beat me & were seen going out. - For attacking I/Ms - they get $200,000 a year, 1/2 in pay, 1/2 in benefits - with only a high school education. THIS IS WHY I FIGHT (on paper) HARD, LIKE I PROTESTED AT CAL SPROUL PLAZA!
