First, make sure you address any mail to me thusly. Then, be aware that they will not let me receive:
* anything teaching gang or violent activity, or photos of gang stuff
* articles torn from another publication - but copies are allowed
* nudity (i.e. nipples of women, pubic hair, or genitals)
* Polaroid photos. Only photos copied onto paper with a note on the side or back are allowed in seg., where I'm at.
* books or magazines or any property that is used, doesn't come with a receipt/invoice + doesn't come from a business.
* bombs, weapons, drugs, etc. Body fluids + hair of any kind also banned.
What you can mail me includes:
* letters lightly perfumed. They can + may deny heavily perfumed mail.
* copies + printouts on 81/2" x 11" paper, even in Tyvek envelopes.
* books + magazines sent from a store or publisher, with an invoice.
* photos printed onto paper, copies of paintings, cool postcards.
- basically anything on paper is allowed, but no metal items. Everything I'm sent is X-rayed, examined, + sometimes read by staff.
If you ever feel that something you sent me was wrongly denied, please file an appeal with my warden: Tim(othy).Haines@wisconsin.gov + send me a copy. Likely I'll have appealed also.
There's no need to ask my permission before mailing me anything made of paper, unless you think it might fall under the verboten category. Let common sense guide you + you'll be right.
If you want me to write back, please purchase the stamped envelopes I'll need to do so from: www.wiinmate.package.com. See if they'll sell you overseas/airmail postage if you want me to write you in another country - otherwise I have no way to reply.
Please don't send me anything that you want returned.
These guidelines apply for all other Wisconsin prisoners you wish to write to.
Thank you!
Nate

I found your blog while on a wandering trail through the internet. (I go on these meandering trips where I have about 10 tabs open and I'm pin-balling around between all of them researching and reading.) I recently finished an article in Rolling Stone about the dangers of solitary confinement, and watched a Nat Geo documentary on the same subject last night. They really got me thinking about the prison system (not exclusive to those in solitary) and how makes me angry, sad, and bewildered how prisoners are treated - it's almost like the qualities that makes one human are being squashed out. So I'm glad that sites like this exist to allow connection and dialogue. I've been reading through your entries and they've been making me laugh and think, so thank you for that!
I would like to write more, and I'll be happy to be an "Internet Fairy" for you! I'll work on a letter and send it off to you soon, as well as send you some envelopes and paper! We'll speak more soon!
