From My life, my fight & the pain I endure: To the World by Craig Lathon (author's profile)

Transcription

My name is Craig Lathon. I'm serving 3 life sentences. I'm currently putting my issues together with my hired attorney to prove my innocence. I'm a 40-year-old African American. I've served 21 years so far.

I think a better way to help and the mass incarceration is to show ones who're locked up that you are on the outside care. A lot of people don't have anyone whom there out there; that's why they turn to drugs, violence, and crimes that really wouldn't affect a white person. I feel juries need to be in some sort of counseling before they decide the fate of one's life.

The support I need that I'm not getting is better communication with peoples on the outside. Some type of outside lifer group where lifers get out and show more support to current lifers, especially the younger ones. I feel one should have more access to their loved ones for us, phones, or computer help. I think for ones who have been loved up for 10 years or longer should also be monitored for mental health issues.

The changes in law I think should be changed are how people who testify against the defendant. The state witness needs to be investigated more. The jury shouldn't boldly put their fate in what a state witnesses says if he testifies against someone for a def. So feel 1st degree homicide should be changed. Murder is the most serious crime. Therefore I feel it should be handled properly. For instance, I was charged with 3 murders which they claimed happened 39 days apart. I was tried for all 3 in 6 days.

To use the media to advances these causes, I feel you should do more begging for inmates. But also ask a lot of questions so we can put stuf on our blog. I feel when we don't receive any response from the blogs, we lose interest. Hope this is helpful.

My name is Jackie Burnett. My father was one of the 3 men you murdered. You left 3 children fatherless since 1991. Craig Burnett now has 5 grandchildren that will never know their grandfather. What took place caused me and my brothers to live through some very tough times without our father. But what it did was allowed us to grow strong and united as one.

You will never be forgiven by our worldly minds and hearts. But God is a different story. The Almighty may have had a different plan in mind. You are behind bars for a reason and I don't wish bad on nobody, but I can't hide the fact that I am very angry. My words to you are be grateful you are still breathing. Thank God that you are able to continue to communicate with the world. Because as you know there are 3 individuals that do not have that same privilege. In closing, I will never contact you again but just know that the 3 of us know who you are as well as your mother. And I pray to God my son never shames me the way I know you've shamed her. Peace and I pray to the Almighty that I can one day forgive before I die... (Today ain't that day).

Hello Craig . I read your blog posts and have really liked them. My name is Alyssa and I am asking a few people on the betweenthebars.org blogs some questions for my own research and was wondering if you would answer them if you felt like it. What are ways that some men deal with missing women in prison? Do you think men change not being around women? If so in what ways? How do you think this affects them when they are released? How do men deal with their "needs"? Do you think men become more reserved or dont know how to deal with a womens "touch" when released? ;) I just want to hear your input on this out of curiosity. Speak your mind. You don’t have to hold back. Nothing will offend me. Haha. I would love to maybe see a blog post about this too. Thank you. Hope to hear back soon:)

I would love to see you post more blogs often as well!

I also see your address has changed since the last time you have posted. Hopefully between the bars will send it to this address.
