CONVICTS AGAINST CANCER
Each year, nearly 200,000 children throughout the globe are diagnosed with cancer. Most can be cured with immediate and effective treatments. Unfortunately, more than 80 percent of these children are in countries where meaningful care is improbable.
Convicts Against Cancer intends to ease the burdens and fears of families facing childhood cancer—families desperate to save their children.
There are many forms of death sentences. The cruelest ones fall squarely upon the little lives of those who couldn't deserve them less. No single arc covers all of human complexity. Cancer will touch the lives of every single person on the earth at one time or another, either by directly affecting them, a friend, or a loved one.
This very special effort is one which enlists the joint participation of all members of knitting societies across California's prison systems, beginning right here at San Quentin. We aim to bridge the gap between pain and smiles for cancer-stricken children, collaborating with any and all yarn crafters who'd like to provide new knitted goods such as colorful beanies and scarves to cover the balding heads of hospitalized children who have or will lose their hair to chemotherapy.
Founders of www.deathrowinmate.org (DRI), Michael Flinner and Spencer Brasure, are condemned prisoners at San Quentin. Their grassroots human rights social network is a 21st century progressive-thinking prisoners' welcome mat—a platform from which to showcase one's redeeming qualities and a venue where like-minded pursuits are coming online with frequency as DRI sprouts out of infancy.
Since our inception, we have planned to become a 501c(3) non-profit organization, proud to meet the Better Business Bureau's Standards of Charity Accountability, including a comprehensive evaluation of charity governance, fundraising practices, and solicitations.
Convicts Against Cancer is the voice of socially conscious rehabilitative giving sense of community and a tribute to the living memories of those who've endured the ravages of the destroyer of life, and most importantly, of those whose bravery and dignity have contributed to inspire us to stand united against the disease of a thousand faces.
If you have a short story of survival or loss that you'd like to have considered for publication online, please submit a non-original as we're unable to return the submission.
Committed to life and research, we're looking for bloggers, chatroom users, tech-savvy folk, and normal contributions to get the word out. Please let your heart lead the way.
