SAH,
First and foremost let me say thanks for your response to my blog post "Things I need while in medium security prison".
When I read your comment I thought "Wow", not in a bad way though... in more of an enlightening type of way.
I do pay fines, court costs, and restitution to my victims. All my court costs and fines were paid off in 2007 and I'm actively paying restitution on my case. 50% of all my money from my institution job and money sent in is applied to that. I've paid $1,700 on the $5,000 I owe and I'm currently down to $3,300 and I'm still paying.
I enjoy working institution jobs and paying off what I owe and hope to get it all paid up by the time I'm out. Part of my "CHANGE" and transitioning to freedom is "righting" a lot of wrongs and paying restitution is one of them.
I'm sure posting something asking for material items seems selfish when it's unknown if other responsibilities are or might be due. I'm wondering that's how your comment came about? Either way it made me "THINK" and I thank you for that.
Often times "A LOT" is left out, unseen, or unknown leaving room for perceiving things how we want or choose to. There is no right or wrong but I think you're 100% right in the "INTENT" of your comment.
Ultimately "ALL" of us in prison hold a great responsibility to take care of our priorities rather than seek luxury items. Victims, fines, and restitution are "VERY" important and are an absolute must to be taken seriously and I do amd I'm grateful you pointed that out so I can speak about it.
