Niki,
Thanks for your comments on the "Things I Need in Medium Security Prison" post I sent in. I never would've thought that post would spark up such interesting conversations but it's been very enlightening and informative so that's a plus.
I also want to thank you for opening my eyes and readers to the way things are dealt with in another country. I'm sure many countries deal with their legal systems differently.
What stood out to me was your saying "I guess this system works for us..." in reference to the way your country deals with restitution. Ultimately, no matter where you're at, it's all about devising a system that works for the people. I'm unsure if America's legal system is working for America given the fact it costs more to house an inmate than to send them to college, but that's a whole different conversation.
I wrote Michael a response in terms of "restitution", as well as SAH. The short version of those responses is that I have paid off my court costs and fines, however I've only paid $1,700 dollars on the $5,000 dollars restitution I owe.
50% of any money I receive from my institution jobs are applied towards my restitution and I've PRIDED myself in keeping a job to make good on what financial obligations I owe to the victims of my crime. It's VERY important I give back.
I want to thank all of you for the HEALTHY dialogue that has been exchanged and hope I continue to hear from all of you and others in the future. Ultimately my objective is to learn and grow from others through this blog and my life experiences and it's conversations like this that help more than you would imagine.
Take care out there and write me back at:
