With little effort you can find libraries of writings, backed up by every variety of evidence that - duh! - prisons oppress those locked in them. Yet I've seen little on how prisons harm the staff working in them, other than superficial media reports regarding violence by prisoners against staff, which settles the blame quickly on prisoners, rarely digging out what drove the prisoner(s) to their extreme actions.

Politicians hustle votes by making back-room deals to boost defunct economies by building prisons + locking up more people, never warning the typically rural, short-sighted sub-hustlers that prisons cause these cancers in their staff:

* physical violence - from captives resisting their captivity, captivity that staff took upon themselves the role of enforcing (e.g. stabbings, etc.)
* psychological violence - again, from captives... CONSTANTLY inflicted on prison staff (e.g. threats of violence, sexual harassment, insults, name calling, + "simply" witnessing staff or prisoners abusing one another).
* existential angst or loathing - experienced by staff who, on occasion, realize they are ghouls, or that their good intentions are futile, or bad intentions are based on delusional ideologies, etc.
* developmental retardation - resulting from staff being inadequately challenged, physically + intellectually. Thus staff typically become obese, lack sophisticated minds, remain in a developmental rut with no reason to get out of it. This can aggravate or lead to angst or loathing, which can lead to depression, reactionary sadism, or other mental or personality disorderliness.

The artificial stimulation of communities by prisons doesn't excite let alone incite the development of more honorable industries such as... auto-manufacturing. At best it supports service industries such as hotel/motels for people visiting prisoners, gas stations for staff + visitors at the prison, lawyers + prosecutors needed to handle the cases prisoners catch, police to safeguard the community from the taint it imported, nurses + doctors to treat staff's + captives' injuries.

Colleges + scientific researchers don't relocate TO prison towns.

The rotten tumors that modern prisons have been made into metastasize, infecting all they contact. This would not be possible if they were transformed into places of healing, nurturing, development, restoration, rather than hopeless hells.

But individual prisoners + staff + members of society must want this change.
