I only cry for you, sweetheart, especially when
the truth of our separation is made plain.
When you tell me, "You're a good dad", my heart
breaks for all you've missed.
When you tell me, "I'm closer to you than anyone else",
I feel so desperately inadequate it physically hurts.
When you tell me, "I only really listen to you", the depth
of all you've suffered comes clear.
There is no way I can ever make up for all you've lost,
and it is that that makes me cry.
