Malala
Did you happen to see the 20/20 'special' on the young girl who was shot by the Taliban? If not I admit that you missed out.
To get the critiques out the way, a lot was missed out of how to end violence and all oppression against women. Nor did it discuss how empowering women or girls for that matter will destroy patriarchy. But enough of this, if anybody happened to see this program or know about this remarkable young girl and not be inspired, then it's a shame. How can one's passions not be ignited not to do good and make the world a better place for all? It reminds me of when Bob Marley got shot before a concert, he was asked (to paraphrase) "Why did you come to perform?" He responded simply but poignantly, "People that want to do or are doing bad in the world are not taking a break, why should I?"
And she's truly not taking a break (Malala) but even in the face of death continues to better her people and girls of the world. It's stuff like this that ignite my resolve for life even in the face of closed doors and imprisonment. Not only this but the selflessness that she harbors within herself. Not many have that nowadays and not many would wish to literally change the world. It's like that maxim, "Many are called but few are chosen."
What an example to live by, eh? A remarkable thing to survive and come out stronger. Perhaps I too have a glimmer of hope to come out of a situation better...
