When I discover the worst case happens, I begin to pray. I take my concern before my God. I release my frustration and let him sooth my thoughts. Finally, I continue my work with confidence that my creator will provide all my needs; I wait on his good pleasure. In the mean time I am content to be about the tasks he sets before me for that day. What do you do when "a string breaks"? Does it ruin your day? I hope not. Plans and activities often go away. The mishaps will fail to distract us from our walk if we pray and release our concerns to the lord while focusing on serving him. No-one can "do all things as unto the lord", if they allow life's challenges to distract them from his presence. Trust in Jesus and know that he can calm the biggest storm; even the one in your mind when the unexpected happens.

When A String Breaks
Life has many challenges in or out of prison. Recently, one occurred in my life. I was on my bunk, busy writing, when I heard a ping. Sure enough, one of my guitar strings broke. The sound is always unsettling.
Guitar strings are expensive and hard to replace in prison. We are only allowed 1 package every3 months; replacements must come in one of these quarterly purchases. Also, to add to my dilemma I earn 19 cents an hour; a set of strings cost $10.00. With shipping and handling, the new ones account for 3 weeks worth of my wages.
I try and plan a head for these emergencies. However, sometimes I am surprised. They seem to happen at the worst moments. You may be asking yourself; so, what does this guy do when a string breaks?
The answer.... I take a break. First, I stop to breath. Then I check to see if I can re-use the string. Sometimes they break just right and a big enough piece is left that it can be restrung. On the other occasions I have no choice; I must replace the broken strand.
