Dear Julia,

In explaining #6 to you, let me first point out that many of the daily actions carried out by prisoners are usually against the rules. Because of this, one must always be aware of the fact any time an officer enters the dorm. Whether he's coming in to do a security check or if he just happens to be taking a stroll and glancing in the rooms, you would never want him to walk past while you're doing something like talking on a cellphone.

So it's just an automatic thing for 1 to 5 guys to yell out a warning anytime an officer comes in. That's why I pictured some ex-con doing what I said on #6. After being locked up for a few years, it has been automatic for him to warn everybody of an officer's arrival.

As far as what phrase gets yelled out: that depends on what camp you're at. Of the 8 camps I've spent time in, 6 used the phrase "One time." The camp I'm at now uses the phrase "One-two". Then my favorite was at the previous camp where everyone yelled "Red light." Then when the officer left, everyone yelled, "Green light." Makes the most sense to me. I've had some guys tell me about four or five others they were familiar with.

So I hope that clears things up for you. I was expecting to get more questions on some of these. But then again, I don't know how many people have even seen them. How did you just happen to come across it? I mean, I would think there are just so many blogs out there to choose from.

Well, hope to hear back from you soon.
