Hello Jamie,
Nice hearing from you. Thank you. Are you serious though, you never really cared for written poetry? What?
I'm telling you, you don't know what you've been missing. You'll see it though, as you get the urge to start writing yourself.
Poetry, to me, is a beautiful way to escape and express to others what you're feeling. What you're going through. Subliminally or straight up. I like my poetry to be straight up. None of that fancy stuff. Straight raw. So it makes me feel good to know you enjoy my poetry. I like to share with the reader extreme emotions with simple words. That way it is easier for him/her, them, to relate, Fancy words, or hard ones, lose the reader's focus when they have to stop to look up a word in the middle of reading the poem. That's the reason I keep mine simple and raw. I appreciate your insight. Whatever you want to share about my writings, whether good or bad, I'll appreciate it just the same.
One more thing before I go: Donn't focus on the way you write, I mean your penmanship. It's what you say that really counts. Even if, like you said, it looks like the scribbling of 7 year old, because the wisdom you got down might be that of an 100 year old woman. Not saying that's how old you are lol. I'm talking about your message. The message in your writings.
For example, check this out. Some students come from Wake Forest University a while back to perform for us. Some of the other guys and I performed our poetry for them. Of course they were more well-versed than us and more prepared. Well, they performed theirs from memory, like a poetry slam. Us, though, we read off our papers. To say watching them was amazing is not enough. I was truly mesmerized. They looked like rappers, rather than poets, feel me. There was this one Spanish chick who just killed it. So it's cool, I'm down with the poetry slam. However, writing is my passion. So I'll encourage you to keep on reading it. And if you happen to feel that itch, write some stuff down. Hold up, do you perform poetry slams? Till next time. Take care.
Wishing you the best, Jesus A.
