Every Nation's Constitution is a covenant between citizen and government, which is a social contract between the people and their elected officials. Unfortunately many Americans, that contract has been broken.

So, who are "We" when we say "We, the People"? Article IV Section (4) of our contract (the United States Constitution) "guarantee[s] to every state in this Union a republic form of government." A republic form of government is a government by its own people through its elected representatives. So, again, who are "We" within our social contract that beings by stating "We, the People"?

My fellow citizens, you are the "We" in that great contract called the United States Constitution. It was designed to include you—but just like in 1989, when "We, the People" did not include "All" the people (i.e. enslaved people, poor people, and women), in 2016 we still face many of the same challenges. A great amount of people remain excluded from the gains encompassed with being a part of this contract. If you are unable to vote (prisoners), or disenchanted about voting due to abject living conditions, inadequate opportunity, and/or dissatisfaction concerning our political process—you are excluded as well.

In an attempt to amplify the voices of the excluded (prisoners, the impoverished, LGBTQ, disenchanted) and display that "We" matter, the Emancipation Initiative is hosting a "Walk for Inclusion & Regulation of American Citizenship".

Our route will be from Ramsay Park in Roxbury to the Massachusetts State House. We hope to achieve recognition towards issues concerning universal suffrage, criminal justice reform regarding long term, life, and Life Without Parole (LWOP) prison sentences, solitary confinement, equal education & opportunity, and prison reform.

Thank you for your attention and "We" look forward to your participation. Thank you!
