IS AIR A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT? NOT IN PENNSYLVANIA PRISONS!
9/27/16: 6:45am: OPENING MY WINDOW FOR THE LAST TIME ):
WELL I WOKE UP PRETTY MISERABLE. WE HAVE WINDOWS IN OUR CELL AT THIS JAIL. FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER HAD A WINDOW IN MY CELL IN 18 YEARS. THEY ARE PRETTY BIG TOO, ABOUT 5 FEET HIGH BY 2 1/2 FEET WIDE. ABOUT 20 BARS COVERING IT BUT YOU CAN STILL SEE OUTSIDE, GET FRESH AIR AND FEEL A LITTLE MORE HUMAN. BUT NOW, THANX TO GANGS AND LAZINESS, THE PRISON HAS DECIDED TO WELD METAL PLATES OVER THE SECTION OF THE WINDOW THAT ACTUALLY OPENS. THIS WILL STOP THE PRISONERS WHO ARE IN GANGS FROM THROWING THEIR HOME MADE WEAPONS OUT THE WINDOW (INSTEAD OF GETTING CAUGHT WITH IT) WHEN THEY LOCK THE PRISON DOWN AND DO A SEARCH OF THE CELLS. IT WILL ALSO STOP THE LAZY PRISONERS FROM THROWING THEIR GARBAGE OUT THE WINDOW INSTEAD OF JUST PUTTING IT IN A TRASH CAN.
SO, THANX TO THESE A**H*LES, ONCE THE METAL PLATE IS WELDED OVER THE WINDOW, THERE WILL BE NO MORE FRESH AIR AND IN THE SUMMER, IT WILL GO BACK TO BEING ABOUT 100 DEGREES IN THE CELLS AND EVEN WORSE BECAUSE THERE WILL BE NO WINDOW TO OPEN AND GET A BREEZE FROM.

I had read about scared straight not working, so I just post a little exerpt for you from an article on it: "A study by Anthony Petrosino and researchers at the Campbell Collaboration analyzed results from nine Scared Straight programs and found that such programs generally increased crime up to 28 percent in the experimental group when compared to a no-treatment control group. In another analysis of juvenile prevention and treatment programs, Mark Lipsey of the Vanderbilt Institute for Public Policy Studies found that youth who participate in Scared Straight and other similar deterrence programs have higher recidivism rates than youth in control groups.1 And a report presented in 1997 to the U.S. Congress reviewed more than 500 crime prevention evaluations and placed Scared Straight programs in the "what does not work" category. Despite these findings, Scared Straight programs continue to be used throughout the United States and abroad." Take care, Julia

I digress however.
I doubt scared straight is a true deterrent to keeping kids out of jail. Actually raising your own children is the best path to keeping them out of jail, and being there for them so they can learn some discipline. Obviously, that will not work for everyone, as some people/kids seem just destined to have horrible lives.
A strong will to succeed, not hang out with the wrong crowd and a desire to get away from all of that also makes a difference.
I know you don't like me as I've been mean over the years, but discussing my feelings with other prisoners, thoughts about the whole thing, prayer and seeing what you are dealing with from your kid makes me proud to be a mom to a kid that may not be perfect, but at least has a sense of direction I was able to provide. I really hope you are able to find some closure and at least a modicum of happiness in your cell as you enter the next decades. By now, you probably have done sufficient time to understand remorse for your crime, and maybe your daughter will make the money she feels is sufficient to find an attorney willing to represent you.

Thank you for sharing such personal thoughts and feelings. Your statement that you can hate what someone does or what they say but try not to hate the person is very wise, and very hard to do sometimes!
I hope that your Thanksgiving was ok and that you were able to be in touch with your daughter. I'm sure she sees how much you are trying to be a part of her life.
