FRIENDS FOREVER

You are my friend... need I say anymore?
For we both understand friendship and it's genuine core
Thus with the joy in me I will further describe
Why I appreciate you standing by my side

The night and I stood alone, hand in hand
A marriage of misery in an hourglass with no sand
I beckoned the night to go away so I can rise
But it refused my escape and echoed lonely cries

Life was now dimmed, sorrow an expectation
Numbed from the leather tips of whipped rejection
A suffering normality was my state of mind
And down you fell into this world of mine

I was curious to say the least, you wrote so lovely
I read every word and something shifted inside of me
A contentment or peace, something I didn't recognize
A feeling I once knew... something I'm now deprived

Long ago I wrote across my heart "No thoroughfare!"
But your friendship came laughing by and cried, "I enter everywhere!"
And form nightfall to sunrise I couldn't believe my eyes
My moon had turned orange and my night a blue sky

Now as time ticks by, it does so with peace
The darkness that once held me, its grip has released
I no longer have to dream of a future in pretend
Thank you, my friend!
