MY BLACKLIVESMATTER SOUNDTRACK: Freedom Songs
Ojore Mckinnon

From behind the walls of San Quentin State prison, I extend a Black Fist
salute to all those in the struggle across the United States, Standing Up for
the Human Rights of Black Lives; and to the International Movement for Black
Lives.

In every struggle and movement there is a soundtrack. This soundtrack
speaks to the people, inspire the people and steel the people to confront the
oppressive forces that will assault them mentally and physically, with the
intent to break their will. The enslaved Afrikan, had the Spirituals; the
Civil Rights Movement, had Protest Songs; the Black Power Movement, had Soul
Music; the Hip-Hop Generation, has the Power of Conscious Rappers. The Spoken
Word empowers the heart and mind to grow resilient. This Playlist is diverse,
and an example of the depths of this ongoing struggle.
