Hi Sara,
Glad that you liked that story. It's the product of freak inspirations and sheer bon chance.
The cartoon Pinky and The Brain was a favorite of mine as a yute. I frequently am reminded of The Brain's pain, surrounded by Pinkies...
And, une amie certainly has (like many women) found herself oppressed by a patriarchal social structure that she's had no say in establishing.
Etc.
If you dig around on this blog, you will find some other morbidly surreal/fantasy tales that I write for Prisoner Express, such as The Boy with Onionskin Eyes. They each express/explore the angst that youngsters experience in our society, without (I believe) being blatantly preachy. You may simply be entertained by them and wonder what is wrong with my brain—a lot! :) Or you can learn from them too.
The questions begged by the tale are, "What young woman in my (the reader's) world may find herself in a spot akin to Dorothea's?" and then "What might I do to help her?"
Real Dorotheas don't have Pinkies to blink them away...
Adieu,
Nate
