TX DEATH PENALTY FUTURE DANGER ISSUE
The death penalty is irreversible, and is different than any other punishment doled out by society to criminals. The lesser value america puts on the lives of its citizens, has made the use of capital punishment and Texas the scope of the world when use of execution is mentioned. Texas is indeed ground zero, being responsible for one third of all executions in USA. The wizest philosopher's teachings have reiterated over centuries of time that our history should be our best teacher. But our vindictive nature as a christian based society teaches that vengeance is ok, in order to demonstrate society's revulsion at crime, its determination to end the cycle of crime, violence verses the majority that now believe it is the moral equivalent to Murder.
Many of these arguments are fought in political arenas, platforms, even elections and re-election campaigns over the decades have run on a message of tuff on crime expand the death penalty. one such 3 ring arena is currently leading our country.
Support for capital punishment is down to all time lows. The use of it has droped even more recently regarding the ability of certain low budget cities, counties to afford to seek the death penalty. It is just another example of the arbitrary use of the ultimet punishment.
our country was founded on the principles of life liberty and the persuit of happiness. These inalienable rights are the exact rights our founding fathers desired when leaving England, its use of capital punishment & the loss of rights, freedom of individual rights. Like the right to bear arms, the right to defend ones self, property, or loved ones. guaranteed to us by our Constitution.
Our legal system based on judio/christian roman law has served us well to some extent. But we are indeed caught in the past, failing to catch up in the world wide trends of modern advancement, legally morally and as a world leader. We have a raised bar to set, an example to show to our fellow human beings: The U.S. Supreme Court has teetered and tottered tinkering with capital punishment, but failed to end it. It is infact the cruelest form of cruel & unusual punishment known: Leaving people to rot away in solitary confinement, torchuring them almost to death before hauling them to the execution chamber decades later, only to victimize their family, friends, friends. It reopens wounds of victims and their extended families to. The term of justice served is in service of whom? The High court has failed us repeatedly.
Our Supreme Court has stated that capital sentences must be treated with special scrutiny, in order to asure that the sentence is purportionate to the crime, in order to avoid unfairness or arbitrariness in the application of the ultimet punishment.
Psychiatric testimonies of expert soothsayers, who can perdict the future dangerousness of a capital defendant, is the worst example of a broken system full of hypothetical, hypocritical assertions that a person placed in prison will not be redeemed, not change, will kill again even in prison setting! Its high time this junk science has to be debunked. time itself has proven this to be false. Many death row prisoners have spent decades, quarter centuries on death rows, never comiting one more single act of violence. Isn't the bench mark standard of any science to study the statistics? to show the end result. It is the ultimet due process violation of a persons life, liberty and redemption, the persuit of freedom. Means are in place in an advanced society, life without parole, is the leading alternative. Rehabilitation, education, change happens to even the worst of the worst soles awaiting execution. Most indeed do get onto the execution gurney and profess their sorrow, apologising, praying. when will we wake up to the injustice of our system?

Please keep writing. You are seen!
I appreciate your perspective and agree almost entirely. Unfortunately I suspect you're wrong about the historical low support for capital punishment. though there is no justification for it and all your criticisms are terribly valid, it seems the new political climate will be much more open to state murders than even just a year or so ago. We may be in for some dark times ahead, my friend. If you've not yet read them, let me suggests the novels The Handmaid's Tale (Margaret Atwood) and The Parable of the Talents (Octavia Butler). The latter in particular will blow your mind with its horrific prescience. 😞
