In Search of That Shining Star

My search has taken me to places far and wide
Wide I saw and experienced came to me as a surprise
To have only quenched my thirst brought a lust to my eyes
I could have not imagined how bad I've been
Deprived

In Search of That Shining Star

She has sometimes been right in my face
My head was too far in the clouds to see her
Style and grace
Maybe I have lost that chance that comes only
Once in a lifetime
To have had a shining star in my life who's love
Is one of a kind

In Search of That Shining Star

She must be of the loving intelligent kind
Devoted to own her womanhood and of strong
Body, heart, and mind
Caring to those she call family, loyal to
The one she call her man
Open to going that extra mile to be the best
Friend she can

In Search of That Shining Star

When I find her, my life will be complete
Entering my world her life will be so sweet
She'll see that Khalfani Malik Khaldun is
The man she can't wait to meet
Who is qualified to heal all of her
Pain and remove her feelings of being
Incomplete

The Strength in Standing Alone

I am currently being held against my will
My captors have kept me isolated from the world
They have sought to disconnect me from those I love and trust
In an attempt to drive me insane

Their actions against me have caused me to adapt and endure
Growing more wiser by the day, confident and sure
If they manage to achieve their goal to cut me off from
The outside... I will do this strong and alone

Complete control over my existence that they seek
They show us they are inferior with fear and surely weak
So my work is swift against their agenda and goals
To excommunicate me me through isolation from it all
I will always regain my composure by standing tall

Still standing, still fighting for freedom

There is a strength in standing alone
A man who knows who he is will be capable
Of maintaining his survival it is
Necessary
I will never be broken in the face
Of great adversity
Do you know your own strengths?

Making the Impossible Possible

How can we fight against all the odds
When those in charge seek our demise
Can we dig deep down inside and not hide
The blood and historical pride and strength in our eyes

Do we surrender when it seems all hope is gone
When it appears everyone has left us all alone
The courts have said you'll never go home
Can we hold on... or give in to defeat or
Listen to our spiritual voice that shouts
Brotha, you keep keeping on

Can we make the impossible possible
By holding our heads up to the sky and our chests out
Study hard to figure out a new route
That will open up these gates to see our
Bodies, hearts, minds, and souls free
Will you step up and promote my struggle
For me

Through blood, sweat, and tears we can do
Almost anything—and change
The world that sits all around us
Do the undoable—and make it happen
Let us in unity make the impossible
Possible

Drawing of two men, one in a suit and the other in chains.
The bound man has words scribbled around him on a brick wall: Marginalization, Reduce them to apathy and obedience, Take away the power to inform organizations and act.
The man in the suit is standing behind a podium marked as Dept. of Corrections with microphones on top of it. He is saying, "Our primary concern is security."
