Greetings:

Being seperated from family while
incarcerated creates an unreasonable
strain on friends and loved ones. There
is emotional stress, along with the
constant coping with trying to figure
out how to maintain a relationship
with someone who is NOT here with
you and how do you include them when
they are seperated.

PHONE CALLS become an extremely significant
part of family life. Even phone calls can
only be planned because the institutions
are in full control of the inmate time.

SO - when that precious phone call
creates a FINANCIAL BURDEN - all kinds of
dynamics come into play. These dynamics
are NOT in favor of the inmate nor the
family.

There has to be "ANOTHER WAY" to open up
the monompoly that robs families
of a service that should be comparable
to the industry. Four (4) calls a month
is almost $100.00. Outside prison, a
person could get UNLIMITED LONG DISTANCE
for so much less.

PHONE CALLS SHOULD "NOT" BE IMPLEMENTED AS
A PUNISHMENT TO THE FAMILIES OF THE INCARCERATED.
SOMEONE IS BENEFITTING GREATLY OFF THE POOR.

Thank you for the opportunity to participate
in this effort.

Respectfully,

X-Ray Robinson

Hi, X-Ray

I am writing to let you know about Prison Action News, a biannual journal of prisoners' stories of resistance to incarceration. Written by prisoners and edited and distributed by outside volunteers, PAN has about 1,600 incarcerated subscribers across the US. It is a great outlet to both read and publish stories about fighting exorbitant phone prices, or any other oppressive aspect of prison life. If you would like to subscribe to PAN, write to:
