Doubt

Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we do not fight against flesh and blood, but against principalities, power, and rulers of darkness in this world and spiritual wickedness in high places. Doubt is the chief weapon of our enemy (Gen 3:11). To comply with Prov. 3:5-6 requires a primer of our understanding of God.

God is. This is the foundation of our belief. To know that He is the creator of all that we can see, perceive, and comprehend. For if He is not, then anything else said or written about Him is worthless. To know that the world around me is made of molecules, and that those molecules are constructed of atoms, which in themselves are mainly empty air with certain particular properties, and not know that God is creator of such makes my knowledge vain.

I challenge anyone to recreate the hydrogen atom from nothing. This is the simplest atom in existence, and no science within our knowledge can explain how atomic structure came about in the first place. All anyone can do is make a hypothesis or conjecture.

The current world around us is filled with premises and philosophies that doubt or dismiss the existence of God. If we allow those tenets to permeate our thought life we have begun to doubt God. This doubt is the antithesis of faith. It's why Paul writes to take every thought captive (2 Cor. 10:5). To not do so renders us ineffective for His service, and in the end, we begin to doubt ourselves.

Once we accept that He is, we can begin to study and learn of His character and person, so that we eventually move from knowing of Him to truly knowing Him. We can know that He is perfect in His love, He is holy, He is righteous, and He is just. We can trust in His promises and know that He will keep them in His time, not ours. We can believe His word, learn His will, and in the end know that on our own, we can never exist in His presence.

We must expand our knowledge and know that He has always known this. That is why He has come to come to this earth as Jesus. Emanuel, God with us, and God made flesh. History recorded His existence, scripture, recorded His birth, ministry, death by willing sacrifice, and His resurrection. We can know all of this—place our faith in Jesus, and have a relationship with our creator only if we first accept that God is.

All of this is merely the beginning of our walk in Christ, for what God truly wants from us is implicit unwavering trust in Him in all circumstances.
