It has been a bit rough lately.
It seems as though it has been months since I last did a post for this blog. I have been sick, really ill. It can get bad, these prison bugs, and this one was one of the worst. But, as in most things I have found that even this has worked for good.
For the first half of this year I was celled up with a guy who was dying. It is not often that a man get transferred to a hospice facility prior to death. They have one such facility and beds are at a premium. What I learned in that was that a need exists for a volunteer "hospice" type ministry here behind the walls. I became convinced that something needed to be done, a plan formulated and a ministry begun. I just was not sure what such a ministry would look like. I was kind of stuck.
As I was stuck I became very ill. I found I could not do laundry or prepare food for myself, I was just too sick. We are only allowed two changes of personal clothing, so if you cannot do laundry you very soon are out of clothing options. If you are too sick to go to chow hall and too sick to make a soup for yourself, you don't eat. If you are not feeling well enough to do the paperwork for medical help, you will not get it. In other words, I was blessed to discover just what kinds of help a person will need most. :)
Then on top of that, my step dad, Gary Stewart, his bother is in a hospice field and really has the know how. I have been invited to correspond with them to learn more about what a hospice ministry will look like. God truly does provide our needs, sometimes in ways we cannot begin to imagine! :)
Life is good today. May His peace and Joy be yours in ever increasing measure, amen.
