Hello,

I am currently incarcerated here in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. I have witnessed the abuse, inhumane treatment of a DEAF female prisoner who is housed in Administrative Segregation. My witnessing the cruel and unusual punishment of offender Betty Tate #1678183 is so unnerving and heartwrenching I pray you all get this letter and post it. The lady Ms. Tate is a deaf mute offender and the TDCJ officials here on Lane Murray Unit do not/cannot communicate with her. She is lost, starved, she's maybe 6"6 tall, was a very nice lady now for some unknown reason she is housed in Ad-Seg away from the inmate population and proper help and care.

She is being neglected, they show deliberate indifference and is harsh. I can't even begin to put into words the mistreatment, the cruel & unusual punishment, this inmate is experiencing. You all out there would have to see it to believe it. Please come, please please help her!

Sincerely

Crystal Roberson #1287432

It's good that you care about the other inmates.
Especially the disabled ones. you sound like a very caring person. Is there anyway you can write a kite expressing your concerns to the warden? I think it's sick that disabled people are kept at the same prisons. I was locked up at Coffee Creek in Oregon and they kept some of the mentally ill inmates on a separate unit. They didn't allow us to go to church. But they kept us safe on our own little unit. They let us crochet all day. And next door was the infirmary where they kept inmates that were in wheelchairs and such. The inmates in the infirmary had the best beds. They were hospital beds that had remote controls. I got to sleep in one when the mental health unit was over crowded. I'm sorry that the prison there isn't taking that good care of the disabled inmates. The best thing you can do for the deaf girl is be her friend. Stay strong.

I agree with Melissa in terms of befriending Ms. Betty and staying strong. Some folks wouldn't care. It's good that you still do. someone here may act on her behalf but sometimes interventions don't turn out as we hope. -Hafsa
