SHOWCASING
6-18-13
Like many prisoners throughout the U.S. I tuned in to watch the Miss U.S. beauty pageant. As misogynist as this sounds I just wanted to see the bikini part. It does sound sexist for me to say that but I have been in prison 7 years. It's a "chemical" thing.
Anywho I must admit that I was very much saddened and disappointed. At the same time disgusted. I'm very much against these types of things but my head was in the wrong place. So the women were showcased as usual. They walk their wanna be sexy walk, turn around and line up. Right off the bat I noticed the "skinniness" of 99.9% of the women. I couldn't help but make a yucky face. Some of these girls had ribs showing! That is not sexy, at least to me. The majority of men will differ.
However, I just looked on aghast while the stick figures moved on the T.V. screen. To add fuel to the fire most were stacked with layers of make-up! I started to question if that's what they really looked like. Take Marilyn Monroe, for example. She looked pretty and all but if you seen her without make-up... oh man, she looked ugly. How much was due to her ugliness and how much was due to me being conditioned that women don't look pretty without make-up, I can't say with certainty. I could say she wasn't all that pretty. While watching the show I also thought what the girls will do if they had to go out there without make-up. Even more, if the "officials" told them you can go out there and do as you please, how many girls will not wear make-up?
Maybe people will see the connection of why little girls make themselves throw up and are anorexic. How many prominent women in T.V., movies, music, art or any other "platform" are "big", "juicy", or "plump"? Beside Adele and a handful, there ain't many. It's a pitiful society who brandishes women as products on an assembly line.
Before I go, I can't leave without saying something positive. I'm not just negative energy, you know. There was a beautiful song that came out during the "evening-gown" or dress part. Well, that song was the best part that I seen. By the way, I didn't finish watching it. Perhaps sometime in the future pageants will be based on character and other things not easily seeing.
