Daddy's African Princess

Daddy's African Princess

Prisons exist both in body and soul,
One filled with events that we've no control.
One of silence and the other of steel,
A collection of emotions that we both think and feel.

Like a ship that's wrecked upon the shoal,
I know my being hauled off to this prison has taken its toll.
But Daddy has done all he could possibly do,
To hurry back home to be there for you.
For no little girl should be without her dad,
'Cause some days and nights can be very sad.
You thinking of him and he thinking about you,
And all the fun things you two used to do.
Like going to the park so you could play on the swings,
And taking trips to the mall to buy you nice things.
Or eating some ice cream or a bowl of grapes,
Then grabbing the camcord to make us a tape.
Of you and Zaire running around the house like fools,
Or your brother Zayid trying to be really cool.

I swear, lil' Princess, I never meant to leave you alone,
And I promise you this: soon I'll be coming home.
Not years from now, but very soon,
And you all can pick me up in
Huntsville, right about noon.
