A Kept Secret

A kept secret

I whispered a secret
To the wind
And it dissolved before me
Underneath droplets of rain
And gray clouds
The wind hisses at me
Like a mad cat
Too tired of dodging the winds of birds
Rain drops
Planes
Kires
Humongous trees
On top of that
I'd asked it to carry a secret for me
And the air refused
Shook its head
And so I kept the secret
With me
I kept the secret
Deep inside
Away from the wind

Hi, Jesus!

I'm so glad to see you're still writing! "A Kept Secret" is now one of my favorites! You breathed life into the wind! All of your work is wonderful, but something about this one speaks to me differently -- maybe because I can relate to it so easily. LOVE IT!

I still think of you often and tell my students your story. I'm at a high school now, and my students want to read the stories you wrote when you were in middle school. So I'm getting out the Multi-Cultural Writing books again! The students will get to learn about "Charlie" and also read the story about how you learned that you should "LISTEN next time!" After that, with your permission again, I'll let them read some of your current work!

I'll keep you posted on how things go in the class. Sure wish we could Skype with you! Is that ever permitted? If so, please let me know what to do to make it happen.

Congratulations on continuing to develop and share your talents! It always makes me smile seeing that you're still writing!

Best wishes always,

Ms. Renegar
