SCI DALLAS TAKES AWAY FAMILY DAY PICNIC FROM LIFE SENTENCED PRISONERS AND THE JAYCEES ORGANIZATION

Hi, I just wanted to send my thoughts out there & see what society thinks. Prison is not supposed to be about warehousing, it is supposed to be about rehabilitation, programs, helping people, fixing people, giving them a job skill to take back into society, but in Pennsylvania, thats a joke. For over 30 years we have had family day picnics, completely paid for by the prisoners & their families. 1 day a year we would have a nice 3 hour visit with our loved ones in a better atmosphere. But this year the prison decided that we no longer need this. They want us to go on visits in the visiting room, pay $5 for a small vending machine sandwich & have our visit ended on average after 90 minutes.
Our Warden, Lawrence Mahally, has decided that we don't need this special day anymore. All they do is take take take. I am getting sick & tired of having everything taken from us. The cost of living continues to rise in here but our pay scale for working doesn't. We haven't had a raise in the Pa D.O.C. for over 20 years. We make 19c per hour. No one in the USA can live on that. But our organizations, the LIFERS & JAYCEES had offered to pay for every cost associated with the family day picnic, the warden continues to say no. My level of frustration & disgust is reaching its limit. If anyone has 5 minutes to spare, if you would like to make a phone call to try to make a difference for us 500 men who attend this special day each year, please feel free to call the top guy;
Regional Deputy Secretary Michael Weneroicz 717-728-4122
or his boss:
**#2 person in DOC* Mrs. Shirley Moore-Smeal 717-728-4110 (Executive Deputy Secretary)
Only these 2 people have the power & authority to reinstate our family day event. People travel from all over the country to come see their loved ones on this special day in Pennsylvania prisons & now it has been taken from us. They say it is gone because of Officers overtime costs. Each guard who works the picnic gets paid $40/60 per house for a 8 hour day, though the picnic is only 3 hours. But taxpayers do not foot the bill for this so his reasoning for taking it is pure BULLSH*T. It is just another way for our oppressors to have their foot on our throats. If anyone feels like helping, making a call to those 2 people could make a difference. The Jaycees is an Org. that does nothing but raise money to help people in society, the LIFERS is a group of men serving life who are trying to redeem themselves & make a positive change in this world. No matter what we do, we still get crapped on.
Please say a prayer for my parents who are both dying of cancer, my dads cancer spread to his brain now & mom needs blood transfusions & platelets 3 times per week. Take care & God bless, ciao.
ps: please google this & you'll find the story written on this in the philly newspapers where they quote Keir Bradford-Grey; Chief of the Defender's Association in Philly.
