Murder and Mayhem: Vegas/Texas - A Hope in the Darkness

To begin, I want to send my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims of all the violence we are seeing in the world. God bless you all, and I will keep you and your loved ones in my prayers.

I just finished a book in which many people were doing horrible things because their king had ordered it. One character asked the hero, "How do you know what is right to do?" He answered, "I just do the thing that lets me sleep at night." You are probably wondering what that has to do with the tragedies we have seen in New York, Vegas, and Texas. Well, I have come to believe that what most of us call our conscience is in fact the part of God that gives us life, and He has always tried to guide us in living a good and loving life.

The connection is this: God is moving powerfully in the world. He is waking up his children, changing lives, and calling us to action. The enemy sees this and attacks us. We have a choice to make. We know that the weapons of Satan are hate, fear, violence, and chaos. So if we look around us, it should be crystal clear who is coming against us. Do we hide from the violence and draw back from the world, or do we trust in the Father and allow Him to use us to touch the lives of those who are lost?

I understand fear. As a child, I feared bedtime and the things my step-father would do to me in the dark of the night. I am no hero, and I'm nowhere near perfect. I try to be honest with all of you. I don't hide who I am, my flaws and my fears. I do trust in Father God with all my heart, and I know my god is glorified in my weakness because He loves us even though we have flaws.

God is calling on all of us to be a light to the world in these troubled times because His love is our hope in the darkness. Our brothers and sisters are living in pain and misery, in darkness, and we should take the light of God's love to them wherever they may be.

We are in a spiritual war, so why aren't we fighting? Edmund Burke said, "All it takes for evil to win is for a good man to stand by and do nothing." Are you doing the thing that lets you sleep at night? God is calling on us to fight the good fight, to be the light in the darkness. Will we answer the call?

God bless you all. I look forward to your comments.

Peace and love :)
