The Novelist Portent

HAPPY HOLIDAYS INDEED!

December 19th seems to always be a pivotal day--changes for the good, usually; but, this year, something odd occurred: we moved! Everyone in the "Murray" building traded places with everyone in the "Marion" building.... It's a total mess.

I cant believe any human would willingly live like this: there's urine and faeces EVERYWHERE--old, dried up, and in layers. We, of the "Character-Based Unit, CBU," are now tasked with cleaning every inch, and we are, the best we can with what little we have. The building SHOULD'VE been condemned! But, here we are, refurbishing it. Somee of us are filling in giant holes in the walls with concrete, some are rewiring electrical (or coax up to the antenna), others working on the plumbing--but one thing we're ALL doing--is trying not to throw up!

Years back, Marion was the HIV/AIDS dorm, they sued (won), and got desegregated into general population; then, it became the gangbanger unit, where not even the guards would go; after that, it was emptied out and refilled with "mental patients" because they too, have recently won a lawsuit against SCDC, and are now being systematically removed from general population (so they can receive "treatment").

Basically... the building has been used as a dumping ground for anything--or anyONE really--that CDC either didn't want to, or couldn't, deal with. And today, of all days, is the day it becomes the new CBU! As F-ed upas it is, I have no doubt it'll be a positive change.
I welcome change.
It's something that South Carolina needs more of.

I should be at home, celebrating my youngest daughter's birthday; but, I'm stuck in this monkey pit. Hopefully that too will change, and one day I won't have to put up with this situation.
