To Cavak (11-30-2018),
Thank you for updating the blog with great info on Yale and other Illinois veteran legal options. This will be very helpful going into 2019.
Between Thanksgiving and New Year, everything within the prison system comes to a near standstill. It will be a few months into the new year before we will begin hearing about future programs going forward. This will directly influence who, and at what pace, we will reach out for veterans support.
I have sent our three requests already, but I do not expect responses until February.
I am glad to see my emails are reaching the BTB blog. We have a veteran here who is suffering for many months due to a sudden unexplainable illness. It resembles a stroke, MS or ALS. It is heartbreaking to see this man's health and strength decline day after day. The health care unit says he is "faking". Now, after many months of effort, a neurologist tech (not doctor) was finally seen. This tech was shocked and said that the vet needed emergency surgery.
It may already be too late. After so many months, the damage is probably irreversible. But without surgery, it will continue to get worse. The vet will eventually end up in a wheelchair, permanently disabled. That was two weeks ago. Only a surgeon/doctor can authorize surgery. The prison health care officials have yet to agree to send him to a doctor.
Truly heartbreaking. And nothing we can do to help him.
Thanks again for the info and caring for veteran issues.
