Idk if it's more funny or sad—no, it's sad, definitely sad—but only just this Christmas I finally realized... 2020 is the start of a new decade. The only new decade I ever got to celebrate was 1990. Jeez. 2000 I was dead and 2010—no joke, I didn't even notice it. For a whole decade, I never noticed it was a different decade from the 2000s.
But this year, somehow, I've noticed.
2020. A big one. And I believe one in which—the first in which—human progress will noticeably speed up. The "knee of the curve," as Kurzweil puts it. Big, big things to come. Hold on tight. Or better yet, loosen up and let go.
Hey, if nothing else, it's 2020—a year in which we should all see things really clearly, right? Hopefully not just in hindsight.
P.S. Happy birthday, too. Yesterday to Jeremy, tomorrow to Coby. Hope you guys are good.
