"FOOD PROBLEMS UNDER QUARANTINE"
A lot of us men on the row are under quarantine, or will be, and those of us who endure this will
be fed on a Styrofoam tray and sloped like a pig. The food is blended in with each other, 99% of
the time there's no salt, sugar or even a spoon and when it is on the tray its in the butter or
under food where its soaked and unusable. The bread comes back in the Styrofoam food
container and its soggy, where its soaked up corn or bean juice, or its laying in the beans.
There's absolutely no excuse for feeding anyone in this manner. Ita sorry supervision on behalf
of kitchen staff, and laziness on behalf of the inmates that are putting these trays together. The
bread could easily be wrapped individual just as they do the RDP bread every day. So there's
no excuse for throwing that bread on top of the food knowing its going to soak up all the juices
and be a soggy mess by the time it reaches us. Sunday night where fed dinner after 8 pm, and
its two six inch tortilla shells, about 4 ounces of cabbage and a processed patty. Basically not
enough food for a small child, much less a grown man. The smart thing to do, would be to serve
lunch bags, a couple of sandwiches and some fruit. But this is the FDOC for you, if it can be
done in an incompetent manner, you can bet they will do it.
On top of this, we're losing our full recreation time. And its one thing to be quarantined, its a
totally different more monster when your dealing with solitary confinement. And the only reason
covid-19 has made it back here, is because staff comes back here and infects us! We've got
staff who doesn't wear mask properly, and other's who don't wear it all. They touch our
clothes during strip searches, and then touch us with a custodial touch holding us by the arm,
going from inmate to inmate without changing gloves for which have been contaminated on
other inmates. And staff has admitted that some haven't had a covid-19 test in several months.
Which in and of itself is insane. These are people that should be getting tested every week.
When we go to rec and are using the kiosk, there's no hand sanitizers. There's no where to
wash your hands properly. We've got to use the drinking fountain as a hand washing station.
So what I'm getting at, is the FDOC isn't handling this covid-19 pandemic in a competent
manner. Which is why covid-19 has slipped back here into death row housing as well as into
general population. But I personally am not surprised, for the FDOC is known for poor
leadership and management skills. And in the middle of a deadly pandemic, poor leadership is
not a good quality to have. But welcome to the Florida Department of Corrections.
