Hello, Miss Elle. I received your post and thank you for just being curious about prison life behind bars.

I guess the food varies from prison to prison. I've been in quite a few different prisons.

The worst of them was Pelican Bay Security Housing Unit. They fed us very small portions for one, and it was slop. If you asked what I thought was the best meal out of all of them. I couldn't pick one that I'd grade top of the list. It was crap every day. The food had no taste. We never get anything sweet, with sugar. They make it a point to scrape off the frosting on any cakes. The canteen was terrible, but I got used to the food and doing without.

It wasn't until we went on three hunger strikes that we forced CDCR to make changes. The food is still bad, but that's prison life.

But now the canteen is better. We can make our own food, and we have spices, chili, to add flavor. I'm in hog heaven now. I can drink a soda and eat ice cream. It was 30 plus years since I drank a soda or ate some ice cream. And in packages we can order items that I never had before.

Here I would complain more about the television reception. We now have these tablets so we can make phone calls. And email folks. It has movies and games. This makes life much better in here.

I'll close here, Elle. Have a nice day.

Pablo
