A Step Too Far!
2-26-12
It has occurred to me that inmates in Oregon will let their shit be taken by DOC. Except for one thing—TV channels. It's hilarious to me actually. There's a reason you'll never see Oregon prisons featured on those showcase shows. It's lame here.
When the tobacco was taken because of a couple clean air freaks, nobody did anything. No riot, formal complaints, or any such response that I know of. When the free weights were taken, again, no one did shit. But 2011 rolls around, and a fucked up TV package comes out. That's a step too far! Really?
As the news spreads of impending small screen doom, people gather to respond in kind. The solution to screwing up Real Housewives and Jersey Shore? No canteen. Stop going to canteen for a month. Sales will drop so badly they'll have to listen.
Don't get me wrong, I applaud the retaliation attempt. It's just a little too late for my taste. Lifers have to die in good health to appease the non-smokers. Not too healthy though because now they can't work out properly. It's all good to me, really, but it was just funny that unity would finally happen to prevent the loss of Mad Men and Extreme Fishing.
As I've said, we're not hardcore or violent enough—or interesting, really—to be on MSNBC. Although a lot of Chris Hanson's guests are here, probably here. Ha! Sorry, that was in poor taste, surely.
Seriously though, as free people, would you be the slightest bit interested in watching a system more worried about losing TV than all the hustling and stabbing and the more explosive prison show fare? Didn't think so. I wouldn't. The fucking Iowa episode I was has us beat. Ha!
I apologize to those reading this. "They" say that an artist or writer puts out what they take in life. I've taken a lot of crap and mediocrity the last 15 years. So that's what you get. I'm not exactly Steven King or Judie Bloom. Which is probably a good thing. Ha ha!

You know, honestly, I'm somewhat comforted in knowing that your place ISN'T like the places we see on TV. Some of them look pretty rough. We watch a show called beyond scared straight which follows spoiled rotten punk kids into a prison and let's them get yelled at by inmates. It's actually a service put on by the inmates to assist in keeping kids out of the prison system. The whole point it, you can tell when they're moving around inside all these different places how bad each individual prison is. Just by the infrastructure alone, if nothing else. It everything looks awful, than you can surmise that the staff and inmates don't care about the environment they all live and work in, and therefore don't care about each other either. This would lead to more inside crime, violence, drugs, etc. It's sad. Most of the really seedy ones seem to be in California, or on the East Coast. All in all, your place doesn't sound too bad, if a guy has to be in prison. I do sympathize with the loss of gym equipment. That's still a stumper.
Happy Birthday Patrick!!! How about the 2016 election? So glad that crapnado is over. Since it ended in Trump, I am only slightly more optimistic than if it had ended in Clinton. I voted for Daryl Castle myself. So, many prayers and much fasting for out new Prez. We'll see. I do have to say, I'm deeply disappointed with our own selves as people. Violent protests? Beating up voters? Really? Are we 12? We have an election with a peaceful transition of power every four years. The President elect doesn't even take office until January sometime. Folks need to chill for a year. How about seeing how he governs before we lynch him, or is that too much to ask out of this ridiculous culture of self-serving, self-loving, no work going, baked, video gaming, free stuff wanting bunch of whiny "The View" watching amoral punks that are sent to college by their parents to spit on everything their parents ever loved or hoped for for their kids? Only time will tell. ;-) Any books you haven't read or bought for yourself? Did you get your new MP3 player yet? Need some help with that? Trying to put together a little Birthday/Christmas shopping list for you. I can essentially send you books or money. I really miss you. No big changes around here since my last letter, except my wife's mother has moved in with us. Kristal, Sondra, Marie, Jeanette, and Kim all say hey Anything new around there? How did your gig go at the big picnic/festival? Any video that you get to send out or share with family for Christmas? THE RAMS!!!!!!! Back in LA The team of my father and my uncles. The home team I grew up with. Roman Gabriel, Crazy legs Hirsch, Rosy Grier, it goes on and on. They look okay in their first year back. They're in a tough division with two of my other favorite teams, so that's kind of a mess. I don't think they'll be in the post season this year, but they've got great seeds. Nothing but good things coming. The Cubs win the series! Not a Cubs fan, but hey. It's historic. I get it. All kinds of love on ya. Hope all is well. Till next time, Dad
