Phone Justice
To The Government Leaders
Greetings and God bless you all. I would like to bring to your attention an issue that needs to be adjusted or something to really think about. It has to do with these phone bills in prison and how high the costs are. I've been in prison a long time now and these phone bills are taking a big toll on myself and my family. You see Mr. Government Leaders that with the economy being so low and a lot of people in this world are facing a lot of layoffs - money is tight, work hard to find. So how are our families supposed to pay bills when money has to be spent wisely. A lot of prisoners have their families sick and in hospitals that these phone costs are taking a big toll on us. We can not make calls when we desire. I can not call home a certain time because the phone lines and bills are too high and my family can't always pay a certain amount of money for a few phone calls.
This affects me and my family since the phone bills are so high our relationships with family and spouses are falling apart. They affect each party by not calling enough or being worried that the bill is going to be high. Yet the arguments always relate to the phone bill and how much it costs and yet for a few calls.
Please place yourself in my shoes, take the time to realize that I have a beautiful mother who has heart problems and always in and out of the hospital and I have a spouse who is fighting cancer and is going through a lot of treatments that are taking a serious toll on her and yet I can't call cuz the phone bills are way too high.
How would you feel is you was the one that was sick and that you don't know how long you have to live and your son or daughter was in prison and couldn't call you to say I love you or to say you mean the world to me and yet you die without hearing their voice for the last time.
May our word bless you as you read this.
A lonely prisoner,
Oscar V.

I am writing to let you know about Prison Action News, a biannual journal of prisoners' stories of resistance to incarceration. Written by prisoners and edited and distributed by outside volunteers, PAN has about 1,600 incarcerated subscribers across the US. It is a great outlet to both read and publish stories about fighting exorbitant phone prices, or any other oppressive aspect of prison life. If you would like a free subscription to PAN, write to:
