AMC 2012

I am a prisoner housed in Wisconsin Secure Program Facility. I have currently received my High School Equivalency Diploma. While incarcerated I would like to attain some educational skills that will be useful in the betterment of keeping my freedom. The state of Wisconsin has unfortunately been faced with budget cuts. These budget cuts have caused Wisconsin Secure Program Facility to stop its college programming. Therefore, I will not be able to continue my education here.

Wisconsin housed a great mass of prisoners. Neither building nor crowding prisons will help solve the problem of crime, but giving prisoners the options of a college education will help ex-prisoners from coming back to prison.

Wisconsin government leaders focus more attention on capital punishment, rather than providing prisoners with the right materials and knowledge that can help maintain their freedom. Department of Corrections is the system's name. Through my experience I feel that the name should be Department of Punishment.
