Ignorance 5/25/12
I'm often amazed at what bafoonery is around me. And in what quantity! Forget the quality, the more the merrier is the norm. Nothing is glorified more than the pusuit of gain. Whether it be in profit (capital), girls, clothes, shoes, houses, you get the point. The more you have the more you're respected. And that's not even the read between the lines thing. When you're broke, like toxic chemicals, you're avoided and when you're stacked... Like sand on the beach, people come plentiful. In prison you can really have only so much, but exactly how much ignorance can one carry?
I talk to fellas here and there and only a select few know the actuality and gravity of our plight. The lowest in the totem pole of class (or does the proletariat give us a run)... But a lot don't see that, what they see for sure is that TV and what they see on TV affects them. And more, consumes their time which no one can recover. It is said the average person will waste 3-5 years of their time watching TV! Just imagine in prison...O...M...G! (to use the slang of the new era) And what is the average time to get an associate degree, 3-4 years? But Kim Kardashian really has a hold on people's interest, but most prisoners can't even cite a passage from the P.L.R.A. Damn Clinton! Yet this girl "Kim" hasn't done a damn for prisoners, she ain't even good "eye candy" but the many debate. Most just like the sense or urge to know and if one is not affected pesonally they don't care. People get killed by police, no sense of purpose, no spark of life, better yet no spine, people that were bad mothaf***** in the streets...reduce to a docile, opiated test dummies. A live experiment. Some get paid abundantly for world issues...forget it...country issues...forget it. We need to start paying attention to the real issues at hand. What's next for the CA hunger strike? What new laws are going to be affecting us? Which are detrimental to us? Why aint' we getting this, that? There's little talk of such things which is sad! As a 22 year old prisoner it infuriates me...men...where are you? Start talking, debating, for crying out loud ARGUE! It don't matter about what, as long as that what [underlined] has to do with us prisoners and our surroundings. Spark a conversation, agitat and seek truth...the reality of things.
It's not easy to learn when all you've been told/thought was a program to follow. How to deeply use that brain/mind? Think stuff through and don't let up. Get to the when, where, what, who and why. Learning is a difficult task and stupid and ignorant way too easy. Why should you care...cause you're sitting in that cell, that's why. Time is on your side and not theirs (prison officials). Read and ask for advice to those whom you think are knowledgeable. I don't think no one know it all...well Christian zealots will say Solomon did. But as the adage goes, if everybody knows something, we all know a lot and that is where our power lies.
{This writing is mainly for prisoners but even more applicable to citizens who find themselves in "minimum security"...the streets}

I hope you are able to make the most of your time and continue learning. Good luck with persuading others to join you - you are quite right that ignorance is easier but it doesn't get you very far!
