Brother Xray whenever I think of my grandmother's funeral, I think of how encouraged I was to see you at the organ that day. I haven't seen you since and a lot of life has happened for and to each of us in the time that has passed. I just want you to know that your presence on that day offered comfort in a time when I felt like my whole world had been upended. Losing my grandmother was for me the loss of my anchor. I like to think I have finally recovered from that loss (nearly 20 years ago), but I still miss her and even shed the occassional tear when I recall the safety and security of knowing I could always go to her. I just want you to know I am grateful for your presence and your voice on that day when I had no voice, only tears. Change is neither spare nor sparing. I wish you well.

Pain has a funny way of rendering the most insightful of comments on life. It's sad that it took so much to render such a wonderful muse. I should hope that something good, some great work or triumph comes from your incarceration. I knew you as a boy, a child. We went through three schools together, and even though we were only closest in Elementary school, I've never forgotten you, or how sweet you could be. Become creative, great, and prove to the world you are something more than what the news paints you to be.
I have a beautiful painting that was done by you. I've had it since the day I was born, May 13th, 1996; 19 years later and I love it more everyday. It has teddy bears and gifts, it's pink. It would be an honor to meet you, it's a dream of mine. I have quotes from your short fictions and writing pieces that I've wrote all over my walls. This painting is absolutely stunning. So much talent in one person, it's remarkable. Xoxo.
First off, I would like to praise your writing style. It is very lucid and earnest. I once read an article about a young man who became paralyzed waist-down. He of course suffered for a bit, but then realized he still had life left in him. To paraphrase his quote: "You have to do the best with what you got." Now he's a successful, handsome doctor in great physical and mental health. His upper body is so strong as to allow him to perform "chair-ups" -- he pulls both himself and his wheelchair up off the ground. I believe good parenting, like good health, is about "doing the best with what you got". And in my opinion, by continuing to write so your daughter may read in the future, you are doing just that. Keep up the writing, both to her and this blog. We love to read what you post. --Calhoun25
