Strike Law
Cont.
Laws like "three strikes" were made for a seemingly practical purpose; while appearing to deal with the problem of violent crime in our neighborhoods, minorities and the underprivileged are swept away from the community at large.
25 to life for a repeat offender of low level crimes, that involves no harm to life or limb, was not what we were sold on 18 years ago when voting for the three strikes law. Actually, we were deceived into thinking that we signed into existence, a means of stopping violent criminals. Criminals who would not stop plying their evil trade, ie., rape, murder, and any kind of sex crimes, would then be forteited their freedom.
We didn't agree to throwing a blanked over California's youth and disenfranchised, as well as non-violent repeat offenders who's crimes never inflicted personal injury. We did not opt for a police state where middle and lower class society forms the bulk of the prison population.
What did recently agree to was the amendment of "three strikes", but look already how this is set to fail: Criminals who are indeed violent, who have caused personal injury to another with malicious intent in their hearts, are flocking to the law libraty to file writs with the local courts, but you passed this law! You because the state needed you to endorse what won't work, so that non-violent criminal could languish and die in filthy overcrowded pristons; so that violent criminals with a "current" minor felony can gloat and then skate scot-free.
This brings me to it: Because of the lack of transparency within the California legislative branch, there exists an on-going plan, whether or not it's intentional or a lapse in professional judgement I honestly can't say, to crowd up our prison system with as many lifers, or long-term prisoners as possible. And at present, the amended Propostion 36 will leave a non-violent offender like me in prison for life, and allow a multiple violent offender go free if he or she happens to have a "current" minor felony. Well, thats why the killer in the next cell is going to get another opportunity to kill, and I will continue to fight injustice.
