A BRIEF HISTORY OF SHIRLEYWORLD - The Madness Journals
Chapter XV

Glad to be back in action. Spent three (3) weeks up at the SBCC HSU with an IV in my arm. I have to say they were real good to me up there (I know that is a shocker coming from me) but that was not the case for everyone up there. A lot of new nurses who have yet to be jaded by the angry old school guards who have hung around the pig trough of the DOC for far too long. I was glad to see that they had got rid of some of the real draconian dinosaurs that had worked up there for too long (and who have such a widely reported history of abusing the old and frail). Some retired, some moved on, but they now have some more compassionate cops in charge and the place is not the hell hole it was the last time I was up there. It is still extremely dirty and they DO NOT follow any haz-mat regulations. I had a "hep-lock" leak blood all over the floor and it was just wiped up with a rag - with blood still clearly left on spots. No one thought this unusual. The toilets are a mess, the showers in the cells are truly filthy. This would shock anyone who saw it - especially real medical professionals - and it cannot only promote disease not cure it, but again I got the care I needed and made it out of there without losing my leg; God is good! I'm still not out of the woods, and am doing a bit of resting (which I am not used to), and I will keep everyone posted and am grateful for all the prayers - I could feel them!

I made it back to the prison just in time to attend the "Residents Encounter Christ" weekend. It is the best thing that happens in prison and I have been attending them since 2004 (wow, how time goes by!). It was a truly blessed event and put fuel back in my tank which had been depleted during my hospital stay. The first two (2) days of this three (3) day retreat were without flaw - we had the support of the Director of Treatment and supervisory staff, and that helped, but most importantly Friday & Saturday are the evil/hateful/spiteful Lt. Whirlwind's days off and the first two (2) days of the retreat fell on those days. Surer than hogshit in a sty Sunday we had a problem - right off the bat - as Lt. Whirlwind was in command and hates anything good. She immediately ignored her post orders that there was to be an "early movement" for the set-up crew (just as there had been, without problem, on Friday and Saturday) as posted on the "post-up" board out front here and issued an order that the members of the set-up team be sent back to their units and wait for the regular movement call. She could take the opportunity to mess with the retreat and her actions caused us to have to rush through the Eucharistic Service and was viewed by the fourteen (14) volunteers from the outside. They all saw just how evil the Whirlwind is and how her hateful actions diminish public safety by creating climate issues and angry prisoners. We overcame, we are far more powerful than the spiritless Whirlwind, and would never let her rain on our parade, but her actions had to be reported here and to prison officials (which you know I did not hesitate to do). Our Deacon "The Artful Dodger" even commented how two-faced the Whirlwind is. She used her fake smile and demeaning tone to tell him how "wonderful" she felt the program was and that we should be getting "good time" for it. The Dodger laughed as he knows all too well her real feelings, but that is who the Whirlwind is: a fake, self-hating bitch who needs to be waiting tables at the 99 restaurant rather than robbing the state and diminishing public safety.

During the Rec I had an attorney visit. The good news is that we are preparing to go to trial in Muise Vs. Roden (#SUCV2011-0869-G). The DOC is opposing all our motions and reasonable requests: no shocker there, but the facts remain that all the preliminary rulings have been in our favor and no matter how much the DOC tries to paint me out to be Al Capone at trial the facts will be the facts: they ran a sex-for-info ring at MCI Norfolk, I reported it to state officials, and the prison retaliated against me for doing it (some readers of the blog may have forgotten - or may not know - that this is how I ended up at ShirleyWorld. Please go to the Solitary Watch website to read the four-part story about that sex-for-info saga). The bottom line will be that I have the proof and will prevail but also that the media will cover the trial in the news and the treachery of the DOC, a brazen sex-for-info ring, will hit the public discourse channels. That, in and of itself, is a victory. The court of public opinion can be a great forum for battling evil and injustice and I plan on using my boundless energy (and a whole bunch of postage) to get the media to tell the story of the sex-for-info evil and how they came after the whistle-blower who exposed it.

Well, they put Denied-Oh in check. I had blogged previously about how she took pay from men like myself (they took 50 cents from my meager $2.00 per day pay - leaving me with $1.50 per day) in order to pay the "Companions" up in the HSU $4.00 per day. (There are the same companions who steal from the sick and dying elderly, eat the food of the sick and dying patients up there, steal the fruit from the sick and dying and sell it on the cellblock, etc., etc., Deputy Denied-Oh's Finest/Hand Picked). Deputy Denied took my pay, and the pay of about 40 other men, without approval from the central office. Now you know I am not going to take this. I filed the obligatory grievance (of course it was denied by the fool of a Grievance Office Lt. Burryanus) and then appealed it to the superintendent (I am still waiting to hear back from "The Boot"). I wrote the Commissioner and let him know how Denied-Oh thinks she is now the commissioner. I wrote The Boot directly - as she is the captain of this scow - and asked her who actually ran the joint, her or Denied-Oh??? I just found out that I will be returned to $2.00 per day (times five days a week - if the boss shows up - of which half goes into my forced savings). I have been in prison for 15 years and have about $450 in my savings account. Now I have used some savings to buy sneakers, a TV, and some other prison requirements, but the point is that they don't pay enough so that a man can save enough for reentry and the sad fact is that the prison jobs have not had pay increases in about thirty (30) years. The price of everything they sell us has gone up 300% but what they pay us stays the same. Another sign of how successful reentry is not any type of priority in the DOC. The 47% recidivism rate ensures their jobs. The Hilltop in Saugus now wishes it had that kind of customer assurance!

For the first time ever in the history of Massachusetts Corrections there was a "Protest" held outside the headquarters of the Massachusetts Department of Correction! The organization which WE started, my friends and I, CURE-ARM organized and held a very successful event there on September 28, 2013. A couple dozen folks gathered with bull horn and poster board signs to give speeches on specific failures within the DOC. The treachery of the guards union was covered, the need for compassionate release, parole reform and commutation reform were all detailed and elaborated upon. The family members of a prisoner who died just days before of inadequate medical care spoke at length about his life and tragic death. The event was a great success! Now CURE-ARM will be renamed in the near future as we felt we did not get the support we so deserved from National CURE and MA CURE (no one from either organization showed up for the protest). And I will keep you posted on the new name and our next efforts. Trust and believe that there are going to be more protests (the state house and the grounds of other prisons) and that the message will be heard by more and more folks. The evil of the DOC will be shouted from the highest mountain and we will hang the evildoers from the highest yardarm! (I'm from Gloucester, you know!)

Deputy Denied-Oh is crazy as a fox (but looks more like a withered cow). She just recently issued another order from her lofty post that the Law Library now be shut down on the weekends. You see, she saw how many men who are fighting her and the DOC in general gather at the Law Library on the weekend to work on their efforts. Men in prison work, attend programs, and go to school during the week. The weekends have always left ample time to work on the effort for change - and the evil queen of spite saw this - so the she-devil put an end to that. It is just another time, as happens so often during the week as well, where the cops can take a nap. Guards will be having sex in the back room of the gym (which happened recently), taking naps in the offices of the closed school building (which happens every night the building is closed due to fantasy "understaffing"), they will be stealing meals up in the HSU which were meant for patients (cops get hungry when there is nothing to do) and will generally be getting paid for nothing - and paid very well - with your tax dollars while you struggle to pay your own bills. Free money in the DOC and Deputy Denied-Oh is "makin' it rain" at your expense.

Glad to be back. As I feel better I will report more on the madness. Thank all you readers for the great cards and letters, as well as the kind comments. 95% of the comments are wonderful and God bless free speech! The negative comments fuel my fire as well - you know there are guard lovers and state whores out there who will deny the truth - but at night when they lay their head on the pillow they know that they have never risked anything for the betterment of another. I put my full name on ALL my work with pride and never use cyberspace as a way to hide or be anonymous.

More To Come...
