Subject: "Write Up"

A mentally ill prisoner got a "write-up" the other day for flipping off a Lieutenant, and disobeying a direct order to take a covering out of his window. The prisoner went off, ranting & raving about the Lt. being a pervert, and only wanting to see his genitals so he could slink off into a corner to jerk off. He went on for a good hour or so, and although it wasn't funny, I had to laugh. The Lt. was pissed, his face turning various shades of red. At the hearing, a few days later, he was found guilty then escorted to the "Hole" for 30 days. They had no business sending that man to the "Hole", because he is mentally ill, the Hole does more harm than good, and he has no contrition for his actions after serving his time.

For weeks, before the write-up, this prisoner was on his door spewing death threats at his antagonistic neighbors who schemed every day to incite his raving fury. (Some days he needs no prompting.) His behavior was very disruptive to the unit, and the staff failed to remove him from the toxic environment due to the new policy. So his antagonistic neighbors continued to amuse themselves with his flare-ups.

I've heard rumors about this prisoner's previous trips to the "Hole", and of how he'd accrued additional time (from up to a year) for failing to conform. While in the "Hole" it seems that his mental health deteriorated as he went untreated. I caught a glimpse of his face one day as he was transformed into his obnoxious tirade, a monster full of venomous rage & prejudice, and I was heart-broken. His eyes, once full of life, intelligence & warmth, now stood piercingly dark, wild & broken. What solitary confinement has done to this man is a travesty, and I pray that I will never be him.

Well, he's in the "Hole" again. The only good thing about this trip is that he can no longer accrue any additional time while in there, according to the new policy. Once his time is served he's out. Pray for him.
