21st Century Media: A Thing That Calls Itself the Face of Freedom of Speech

Thomas Jefferson once wrote, "Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost."

With the above premise in mind it's fair to assert that we are at a period in American's history, where unlike ever before, there is an urgent need for truly independent journalism/blogs and media outlets that are unaffiliated and untainted by government and corporate control. In today's America we all know or should be reasonably aware, that unfashionable opinions are frowned upon and whats being passed off as news for the most part, is anything but. Moreover, unfashionable opinions and views could bring about a wave of unpleasant and severe consequences. All that our nation's leaders say about there being no erosion of our most sacred liberties is a lie. The reality of this situation is very disturbing for those of us military veterans whose strong beliefs in the guarantees, privileges, immunities, and protections of the Constitution of the United States, made the prospect of military duty most appealing. Today's corporate and government consolidated media has in fact created a 21st century system of "news" which daily defiles and undermines democracy and freedom of press - and freedom of speech - by purposely stifling and diluting the necessary discourse crucial to maintaining a critical and truly informed American public.

That is not what a free country is all about. That is begining stages of what a totalitarian country is all about. We need to turn things around. We can turn things around by constant pressuring our elected leaders about this issue, and by continously lending a voice to express our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.
