Hindered Prayer

Let's examine those things
that may hider our prayer
some of which are obvious
of some, we're unaware.

The first one is easy
or at least, it's not too hard
is the thing you're praying for
within the will of God?

Are you standing on the outside
perhaps just peeking in
with one foot in the church
and the other steeped in sin?

Do you "waver" in your asking?
"Stagger" with disbelief?
Creeping to the Throne of Grace
as nervous as a thief?

An "unforgiving" spirit
will render void your pleas,
a hardened heart rendering void
the time spent on your knees.

Do you approach the alter
with a grudge against your brother?
Then your prayer and your gift
is in vain, as you will discover.

Ask and you shall receive
Seek and you shall find
That part's easy to believe
if we are so inclined.

But that's what His word says!
Yes, and we're so quick to say it.
But there's more to it than that
i.e. did you obey it?

If you love my father
and your neighbor as yourself
it is then you'll truly prosper
and gain far more than mere wealth.

When you say "our" daily bread,
but you really mean just "my"
then, my friend, don't be surprised
when that "bread" has been denied.

Those things that we know will hinder our prayer
and keep us out of the throne room of grace
will become the burdens that we will bear
as we try to run from the "good race."

So please, brother, pray for me
and I will pray for you.
That we both may walk in grace
among the chosen few.

Let us share the heavens of brass!
