HANDS
7-27-14
Human hands are of many different sizes, shapes, and shades. Some are tiny & small; representing infants & children. Some are big & petite; representing men & women. Some may be scared form hard labor or a harsh life. Some may be mangled from a tragic accident or abnormal birth defect. These variations of hands each tell us how important they are and what they are used for.
The hands of Jesus tell a very influential testimony. He used his hands to hold tools of a carpenter and sculpt pieces of wood into useful objects. He used His hands to give hungry people bread and fish. He used His hands to hold small children. He used His hands to caress the eyes of the blind and restore their sight. He used His hands to open the ears of the deaf. He used His hands to quiet the raging seas. He used His hands to point people in the direction of the Kingdom of His Father.
He never used His hands to make a fist. He never used His hands to snatch things from others. He never used His hands to point anyone in the wrong direction. He never used His hands to strike others. He never used His hands to push people away from Him.
One fateful day, those very hands were pierced and nailed to a cross. Pierced, but not closed! They were attached to arms that were still...in the face of evil...reaching out to a lost and dying world. Following Jesus' example, I too, strive to use my hands to help and not hurt...yes...even in prison.
