Starting My 23rd Year in Prison

Wow. In October, I will start my 23rd year in the joint. Can you imagine all the things that I missed out on? I have only used 1 cellphone in my life, and that was over 5 years ago at a prison called CA, Mens, Colony.

Just about everyone in America has a cell and I don't hardly even know how to turn the damn thing on. I watch TV and I'm basically stuck in the stone age still. I'm very educated, but I'm a layman when it comes to all the new electronics.

Tablets, cellphones, etc. I know nothing about. I was thinking about all the years that I've been in these CA prisons. I got a lot of time down, and a lot more to go. Think about this: I got 23 years in and my parole date is 2055.

Yes, in fact, the state of CA wants me to die in here. I'm not going to do that. I want to get out, work, and take care of what's left of my wonderful family. The people who used to know me would be surprised on how much I have grown as a man.

It's February and we're in 2016. Wow. Time sure does fly by. I'm having a b-day this month. I turn 46 on Feb. 28. I will enjoy my b-day this year even though I won't celebrate it. I haven't celebrated a b-day since I got locked up. What's the point?

A year older, yeah, but I won't be bitter or an old man who complains 24/7 and no one wants to be around him. I'm the dude who laughs and smiles, cracks jokes daily. Just because I have life don't mean I will be miserable.

I'm having a vision that 2016 will be a year that my sentence gets reduced. I will be able to look back on this post and say, "Wow. I have visions and they are real."

I work in a nasty, dirty prison kitchen. I work from 3 AM until 9:30 AM. My days off are Mon/Tue. Today is Tuesday so I work this morning. I will post more sson.

Respectfully,
Donnie

P.S. I want to get myself put on Facebook. Would anyone like to help me set it up?

Hello Donald. I have read some of your blog posts and they are very interesting and well thought. My name is Alyssa and I am asking a few people on the between the bars.org some questions for my own research and was wondering if you would answer them if you felt like it. What are ways that some men deal with missing women in prison? Do you think men change not being around women? If so in what ways? How do you think this affects them when they are released? Do you think men become more reserved or dont know how to deal with a womens "touch" when released? ;) I just want to hear your input on this out of curiosity. I would love to maybe see a blog post about this too. Thank you. Hope to hear back :)

Hello Donald. I read your blog posts and really enjoyed them. My name is Alyssa and I am asking a few people on the betweenthebars.org blogs some questions for my own research and was wondering if you would answer them if you felt like it. What are ways that some men deal with missing women in prison? Do you think men change not being around women? If so in what ways? How do you think this affects them when they are released? How do men deal with their "needs"? Do you think men become more reserved or dont know how to deal with a womens "touch" when released? ;) I just want to hear your input on this out of curiosity. Speak your mind. You don’t have to hold back. Nothing will offend me. Haha. I would love to maybe see a blog post about this too. Thank you. Hope to hear back soon:)

I would love to see you post more blogs often as well!

Hello Donald! Thank you so much for your response to my questions. I really loved your responses :). Just to let you know I asked these questions for a psychology class that I was taking in college. I was doing research on human interactions and how a lack of intimate contact can change a persons personality and outlook on life. I specifically was looking at correction systems. I am glad I stumbled upon this blog website. This is going to give me a first hand perspective into the system through people like you. Your responses were very thorough and will help me immensely in future papers. One thing you said and other people have said is that people seem to block out women from their lives if they can. People also talked about being reserved when they get out of prison and also scared of women. Another thing men and women both talk about is they masturbate in prison to cope with the lack of intimacy. These are just a few things I wanted to share that I have found so far and I appreciate you helping add to this data. If you can think of anything else that might help with my research I would really appreciate it. I really like your blog posts and I hope you continue to write. I guess I have a few more questions to ask if you dont mind answering if not, no big deal. Does your state offer conjugal visits? if so do you see any difference in mens behavior who get them? if not do you think it would help or not? Do you have access to regular pornography magazines? Can you have fully nude magazines? Does any contraband of this sort happen to get into prison if so? Do prisons discourage masturbation or allow it openly? A lot of men who I have blogged with on here in prison say they get punished if they were to be caught masturbating and I think that is wrong. Is that the same with you? This is part of human nature and is healthy thing to do to remove stress. I know I have to do it occasionally too to not be stressed ;) Does any contraband of this sort happen to get into prison if so? Do you think some men abstain from masturbation and show other forms of emotions to overcome these frustrations (like anger, depression)? Do men who have a significant others on the outside act any differently than men who dont have a significant other on the outside from your observations? That is all I can think of for now. If you dont feel like answering these questions dont feel obligated. I want you to be as comfortable as possible. I really appreciate anything you can answer. If you can think of anything else that might help let me know. I really love your writing. Just so you know i'm super blunt and i'm not afraid to talk about taboo topics. Haha. If you have a picture I would love if you would send it so I could see you ;) Thank you again Alyssa :)

Hi Donald:
I am interested to know what self improvement courses have you done while on vacation?
What beliefs do you have about spirituality?
Do you believe you lived other life times?
Are you intersted in learning something new? Something that will improve your communications or ethics or study skills?
You may have posted the answers to some of these questions but I would prefer a summary from you.
I also want to know what type of books interest you?
What skills do you have? What jobs do you have in exile?
What your daily routine is?
What you think could be done to actually rehabilitate mankind to have peace on earth?
Do you believe in alternative medicine?
What is your opinion of Psychiatry?
I help people learn how to gain their self respect. Man winds up incarerated because they loose their self-respect.
Don't know who they are and why they are here.
Thank you for allowing me to write to you on BtB. It is a grand communication site. sincerely
Erne of Florida
