THE SILENT VICTIM
(revised)

In a men's correctional system, transgender women suffer, but it is for sex offenders a prime (target-rich) environment where rape is done for the power an pleasure it provides the predator.

They are thrilled to be provided fresh opportunities (now in prison) to be back on the hunt. With policies in place to house transgenders with these violent and dangerous men, the prey is literally in the cage with the lions.

Victims are weakened by estrogen shots, so it is a veritable goldmine for sexual predators. The unrestricted access gives sex offenders the ability to study and observe their prey for long periods of time.

The degeneration of the prey's power to resist and the institutional custom of guards and prison officials of silencing allegations of abuse, create a perfect utopia for dangerous predators who continue to victimize, even after being removed from their communities for the same behavior.

Predators who cannot and will not stop victimizing must think they are being rewarded for their crimes —landing in such an ideal setting as this, housed with weak and silent transgender victims. SAPRO is the same as PREA for the prevention of rape inside the institutional setting.

Why must I endure such torture along with my long prison sentence? I thought it was a cliché that prisoners were harassed and abused, but, as a transgender woman, it's a guarantee! I am living a prison stereotype hell with nothing to look forward to other than a lifetime of sexual harassment and abuse. This is just the reality.
