Who Decides Who
When can be a man be beyond salvation
Too steeped in sin for an excavation
And be written off as a total loss
Beyond the blood that was shed on the cross?
And who decides who that man should be
That's beyond the blood shed on calvary?
How about someone who persecuted the church
Sending Christmas to their death form a lofty pharaoh
Which one of us would have had the gall
To banish such a man as Paul?
What of a cold-hearted adulterer
Who sent a man to face certain death
As part of a plan to claim his wife
After he'd taken his last breath?
What Would Have
What of a man who took a life in a fight
Then fled like a fugitive into the night
Would he be banished as one supposes
What would have then become of Moses?
What of a man who would deny the Lord?
Of course, that man would be deplored
Who three times before the cock could grow
Whom questioned said he didn't know.
Redemption must have made that victory sweeter
As I'm sure it did in the case of Peter
When can be a man be beyond salvation
Too steeped in sin for an excavation?
And who decides who that man should be
That's beyond the blood shed on calvary?
There was once a cruel slave trader
Who did his talking with his whip
And whom he'd "talked" some slave to death
Would simply toss them off his ship
If such a vile man faced a firing squad
Perhaps we'd all like to do the shootin'
But then, who would have taken his place
And wrote the words to Amazing Grace?
You see, that vile man was John Newton
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
"Whosever will," he said
Just call upon his name
He promised
To love all, just the same
Thank God that we are saved by grace
And not by the opinion of man
Thank God that we are saved by the blood
Not by some church or the Vatican
So who decides who should be free should be bound?
Well, it's amazing grace, how sweet the sound.
