Poems

From Counterfeit Freedom by Roland F. Stoecker Jr (author's profile)

Transcription

—Blurring Reality—
I sat down to eat
rice and cheap soy sauce
head bowed in sad submission
tears flooded and spilled into my bowl
realized that I was eating my sorrow
mixed with rice and cheap soy sauce

—She Said, She Would—
I imagine
my mother had tears
and makeup on her face
every time she said
she would be visiting me
but never showed up.
I waited, even when I fell asleep.
