GrahamVets Flagpole

Enclosed is a photo of what our flagpole and memorial looks like.

On November 11, 2016 we had a dedication ceremony to name this as Lieutenant Mel Durbin Veteran's Memorial Park.

It took us over 18 months to coordinate its completion and required funds. All funds were donated by GrahamVets members, outside veteran organizations, and outside churches. No IDOC funds were used.

We owe a great thanks to Q.C.C. administration for supporting this vision and the maintenance department for the exceptional work on all the concrete.

On September 11, 2016, the first colors were raised in tribute to 9/11. We have conducted morning and evening flag detail every day since. No matter the weather conditions. It is a four-man detail that includes a bugler to play "To the Colors" and "Retreat the Colors."

Each of the six posts you see in the photo have one military branch logo on the face. Each is a 12" round plaque and the sixth one is an image of a Purple Heart dedicated to combat vets.

Mel Durbin is a Vietnam vet, Sergeant-USMC. As an IDOC Lieutenant, he founded GrahamVets over 25 years ago.

Until next time,

[Colored photocopy of the described flagpole. Bushes with white and pink flowers surround the slab memorial. The sky is cloudy and blue.]
